Short version: I collect very little, I never sell any of it, and you can ask me to delete whatever I have.

Who I am

Matey is run by Matt, from Queensland, Australia. Wherever this page says "I" or "me", that's who it means. Questions and requests go to the email at the bottom of the page.

Visiting this website

No accounts, no sign-up forms, no advertising cookies.

Like any website host, mine keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, the page requested) for a short time to keep things running and secure.

Chatting with a demo

What you type into a demo is sent to the AI service that writes the replies.

I do not keep a copy of demo conversations, and the demo stores nothing in your browser.

Your IP address is held in memory for about 15 minutes to stop anyone hammering the demos, then forgotten.

If a demo offers to pass your details to the business or raise a ticket, nothing is actually sent. It is a demo.

If I emailed you about a demo

To build your demo I read your business's public website: products, prices and policies. That is information about your business, not about you.

To email you, I look for business contact details on your website, in public business listings, and with email-finding services. I only use business addresses.

I keep your name, business, email and our emails in a private spreadsheet so I know who I've contacted and never double up.

Every email I send has a way to say no thanks. Say the word and I stop, and mark you so you won't hear from me again.

If you email me

I keep your email so I can reply and follow up. I do not sell it, share it, or add you to a mailing list.

Mateys on a client's website

When a business puts a matey on its website, what their customers type is sent to the AI service that writes the replies, and the conversations are saved so the business gets its monthly report and I can fix mistakes.

If a customer leaves their details for a person to follow up, those details go to that business.

I only use these conversations to run that business's matey and write its report. They are deleted when the business stops using Matey, or sooner if the business asks.

The business's own privacy policy covers its customers. If you are one of them, you can also ask me directly about anything here.

Who else handles your information

I use a small number of trusted services to run Matey: website hosting, the AI that writes the replies, storage for client conversations, email, and tools that find and check business email addresses. Each only gets what it needs to do its job.

Some of them store data outside Australia, mainly in the United States.

I never sell personal information, and nobody gets it for advertising.

Seeing, fixing or deleting your information

Email me and ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. I will sort it within 30 days, usually much sooner.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, tell me first and I will try to fix it. If that does not work, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes

If anything here changes, I will update this page and the date at the top.

Questions about any of this? Ask me directly.
